Specialization - Web Marketing

The Web Marketing industry is going through some interesting changes. With the increase of marketing channels and delivery methods, we are seeing an increase in demand for web marketing services such as seo, social media, online pr and a few others. Just as in the early days of medicine, one doctor supplied care for the entire family and for every situation, in the early 90s such was the case for web marketing.

At this time one person could effectively handle all aspects of a campaign, giving them equal time and attention. With all of the complexities of today’s specialized world, this is no longer a reality.

Sure, one can do a bit of everything at some levels, but when it comes to handling large scale, multi channel marketing strategies, most often a team of specialists are required and most suited for the job.

So.. tip of the day is…specialize! Find a niche that intrigues you, become highly specialized and flexible to the changing web marketing environment. Marketing Intelligence and SEO Consulting are the specializations I have chosen and straight from the ugt- i love my job.

Here is a very short list of the web marketing specialization one could pursue:

SEO

Social Media Marketing

Pay Per Click/Adwords

Online PR

Blogger

Content Writer (SEO, Social Media, PR, Ad)

Web Design

Affilliate

Just to name a few. Webssion was created to discuss and refine high level web marketing techniques, mainly SEO, Social Media and Online PR. Our goal is to offer a platform for discussion and make our specialized services available for those looking to go the next level or a fresh, integrated approach to your web marketing strategy.

Outsourcing web templates costs more than you think…

Posted in Web Marketing Tips with tags , , on June 9, 2008 by webssion

About 6 months ago, I purchased a template from a site online. They had great designs, a pretty impressive support feature which allowed you to discuss your project with someone via chat as you decided what would be best.

We picked a layout and proceeded to customization. They delivered the design and we were off running.

About three weeks ago, I received notice from my client that one of the phone numbers on the index page was incorrect. Funny thing, after 5 month we noticed. Ouch!

Anyway, as eager as I was to get this issue resolved, I contacted the folks to tune templates (hint, hint!) with a simple request to change one number on the flash piece of the presentation. After two weeks, 6 emails, 4 phone calls and a whole lot of patience…I think they no longer exist.

Don’t get me wrong, their site is still up and running, the lights are on, but at least for this client…no one is home.

Now I am scrambling to catch up.

This blog post was created our of sheer frustration with the folks at templatetunning.com and I do hope they see it, this way I might have a chance at some “after-the-sale-support”.

Aside from my bad experience with this particular company.. I have two general warnings to share with all of my web marketing pals…

1. Minimize the use of Flash.. YEAH, it looks great, but it is a royal pain in the you-know-what to change and modify. If you have an incredible flash person, then kudos to you and although a bit jealous, you go!!!

2. When looking to outsource your work, look for long-term partnerships instead of fly-by-night solutions. The long terms partnerships are more likely to be around when you need them a few months after purchase.

That’s all for now.. back to banging my head against a wall.
